Abstract

Forum Wood Building Baltic is proud to be a part of the International Forum Holzbau network, founded by leading European universities as a platform for knowledge and technology exchange. The organization achieves its goals by hosting conferences and exhibitions across Europe and by initiating and coordinating research and education in contemporary, sustainable timber architecture and construction.
The event, aimed at the Baltic audience, is organized by regional universities working in the fields of timber architecture, engineering, and research – Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH), Riga Technical University (RTU), Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), and the Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA). The Forum is being held in Vilnius for the second time.
In the Nordic and Baltic countries, local building materials have gained importance in the context of today’s sustainability goals—renewable natural resources help address the challenges of climate change and resource scarcity. Research and technological innovations across various fields over recent decades have significantly expanded options for architects and engineers designing timber structures. Manufacturing and development companies are actively involved in this process. Therefore, the forum aims to bring together university researchers, designing architects and engineers, wooden structure manufacturers and builders, urban planners and city administrators, real estate developers, and heritage preservation experts for a shared discussion.
We achieve these goals by inviting experts from the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania), the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Sweden), and Western Europe (Austria, Germany, Spain) to give speeches. Most of the Forum speakers are architects and engineers (structures, materials, fire safety). However, the presentations go beyond the boundaries of a single profession.
The forum features a two-day symposium and an exhibition showcasing manufacturing and construction companies. The symposium program includes six oral presentation sessions and a poster session. We aim to evaluate the quality of the most significant recently completed architectural and engineering structures, as well as the innovations currently in development. For the first time, we are hosting a poster session to enhance this expert discussion by inviting students, doctoral candidates, and emerging architects and engineers. To promote professional interaction, we organized oral presentation sessions to ensure greater diversity in topics and geographic representation.
