From practices to adoption: simulation technologies in manufacturing

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyse whether established manufacturing practices are associated with the adoption of simulation technologies for product design and production processes. Using 2022 European Manufacturing Survey data from four European countries, logistic regression is applied to test links between five established manufacturing practices and two types of simulation technologies. The results show that pull production is strongly associated with both simulation types. In addition, product design simulation technologies are linked to setup-time reduction practices and visual management. Contextual factors such as firm size, industry technological intensity, and country influence the adoption of simulation technologies.
