Abstract

Social acceptance and citizens’ opinions are key factors in transition towards sustainable food systems. This study analyzes citizen perspectives on using biofertilizers and soil improvers derived from food processing residues. Surveying over 1000 participants across Finland, the research evaluates public expectations, concerns, and knowledge gaps regarding sustainability, environmental impact, and safety. Results show high interest in biofertilizers’ ecological benefits but also concerns about chemical content and long-term effects on soil health. These insights inform the development of business strategies and regulatory policies within the circular economy, promoting sustainable agricultural products that align with both consumer preferences and economic policy frameworks.
