Abstract

More than two-thirds of the world’s energy needs are met by non-renewable energy from natural resources. Research shows that the risk to global and regional energy security is increasing due to the depletion of natural resources. At the same time, building modernization plays a key role in reducing energy consumption and environmental impact. The study analyses the potential of thermal energy recovery from wastewater. Issues related to environmental, economic and practical constraints, how this energy can be realistically recovered, and the possibilities for reducing the carbon footprint are discussed. This article examines the alternative energy supply, how much heat could be recovered from wastewater and whether this heat can be effectively used.
