Analysis of the factors determining the choice to make bicycle trips and traffic accidents related to bicycle trips

The bicycle is seen as part of a sustainable transportation system, it ensures environmental protection, economic well-being and social well-being. However, at the same time, cyclists are the most vulnerable road users and despite improving the quality of infrastructure, the number of traffic accidents involving cyclists is not decreasing as expected. The article analyzes the latest scientific articles related to the main factors determining the choice to travel by bicycle – weather conditions, terrain, infrastructure quality, safety, social changes. The article also analyzes the latest scientific research related to traffic accidents in which cyclists are injured. The most common types of traffic accidents and their connection with the planning of communication infrastructure are determined.
