In 2019, the European Commission adopted the European Green Deal (EGD), which set the common goal for the entire EU– to make Europe a climate neutral continent by 2050. This topic is important because the EDG will require actions across many sectors – energy market, transportation etc. and has an impact on the whole world. Although the regulation is the same for all countries, the progress of implementing the goals of the EDG is different. The aim of this paper is to assess the sustainable development of EU countries in order to achieve the goals of the EDG. The latest scientific literature analysis showed, that many authors emphases the main areas of pollution – energy and transport. Although most authors carried out reasearches in the areas that have the greatest impact on Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. There is a lack of recent studies evaluating countries’ sustainable development in the implementation of EDG. To assess EU countries sustainable development the cluster analysis was made and the results revealed that only less than half of the countries’ GHG reduction indicators meet the EDG goals, while the rest of the countries will have to make a paradigm shift in the future in order to achieve European Green Deal goals.
