The biotechnology industry aims to produce unique products and processes that improve the lives, health and wellbeing of individuals and society as a whole. Over the last few decades, interest in biology or biomedicine has grown significantly and science has been widely applied in a wide range of biomedical and life sciences fields, including diagnostics, therapy, drug delivery, biosensors, tissue engineering, and biofuel production. Carbon emissions have been an issue for many years, and the production of renewable biofuels from biomass has been widely studied to reduce carbon emissions and ensure sustainable industrial development. Biofuels are receiving a great deal of attention from researchers in various categories of the biotechnology sector to address energy shortages and environmental issues. The aim of the article is to compare the production volumes of biofuels in the world and in Lithuania after analyzing the trends in biofuel production. During the research, the data on the production volumes of bioethanol and biodiesel produced in the world and in Lithuania are statistically analyzed. After evaluating the obtained results, the trend of biofuels is evaluated.
