Intelligent transport systems and determining factors of its development

Abstract

Foreign and Lithuanian researchers study the benefits of intelligent transport systems (ITS) application and development opportunities in various aspects. Due to the rapid development of technology, most authors emphasize the need for new researches on ITS. The aim of this article is to identify the factors determining the development of ITS, based on theoretical and methodological provisions for the development assessment of ITS. The aim is achieved by performing a theoretical analysis of the application and development of ITS, compiling a system of indicators indicating the development of ITS, conducting and expert survey and a multi-criteria evaluation of indicators of development of ITS. Research on the application and development of intelligent transport systems is carried out in order to evaluate the efficiency and benefits of ITS, identify the most efficient ITS, analyze the significance of cooperation between states in the implementation of ITS. The results of this article indicate which factors are most influential in the development of ITS. It also identifies which of the analysed countries has the greatest potential for the development of ITS.
