The features of the assessment of productivity, as the main aspect of economic development

In a world affected by globalization and technological innovation, the goal of each country is to ensure economic development. Given the attention to a current situation: market openness, new job creation, the use of technological innovations and changes of many other factors, productivity is becoming a major lever for economic development. The category of productivity is analyzed by different sections (identifying with performance or linking to innovation). The purpose of this article is to evaluate productivity and its impact on economic development in Lithuania. The related tasks are solved: to analyze scientific literature in the field of productivity and its evaluation, to define peculiarities of productivity and economic development, to evaluate productivity and its dynamics in Lithuania. The following research methods have been used in the article: analysis of scientific literature, method of matching theoretical and practical statements, analysis of statistical data, calculations of total productivity factor.
