Comparative analysis of private savings and investment processes in Lithuania in 2006–2016

The article deals with various authors approaches characterising investment and its concept. The most important aspects of personal finance are analysed focusing on the field of personal investment and savings. The article reveals the main investment opportunities, describing theoretical characteristics including strengths and weaknesses of investment instruments. Saving and investing activities, trends of the financial market in Lithuania are specified on the basis of return on investments and overview of household financial behaviour. The conclusion contains theoretical and practical summary of the results. The analysis shows that household financial behaviour in Lithuania could be characterized as conservative — the majority of households save money in the form of cash or accounts in financial institutions, and the activity of using other alternatives, such as investing, is low.
