Employment in Lithuania: situation assessment and new opportunities in the labour market

Abstract

This article assesses the situation of Lithuania’s residents in labour market. According to the basic indicators characterising situation of employment, the situation and employment trends of distinct demographic groups are evaluated in this article. The problems of target groups integration into labour market are revealed. The carried out evaluation of employment situation allows as to state that despite of improving general employment statistics specific demographic groups still face difficulties integrating into labour market. However, it should be noted, that Lithuania has recently started reforming the labour market by implementing the recommendations of the European Commission. It is believed, that flexibility conferred by new legislation will improve the employment opportunities of targeted groups and Lithuanian labour market will maintain its competitiveness during the economic changes.
